We are excited to visit the days of knights and legends with this ORIGINAL ART for the comic strip Prince Valiant by Val’s current illustrator Thomas Yeates! It was drawn in ink on a whopping 19x23” piece of Bristol board, with the image area being about 13x20”. The lettering is just penciled in on this, as it would have been added in digitally later for publication. This appeared in newspapers on January 10 of this year.
Prince Valiant has been a beloved feature of the newspaper comics since Hal Foster created it back in 1937. There have been just a few hands to draw it over the years, and it is ably being carried on since 2012 through the talents of Thomas Yeates. Yeates has been a presence in the world of comic books for many years, beginning in the late 1970s. He has illustrated characters such as Batman, Jonah Hex, Swamp Thing, Superman, Airboy, Conan, and even the Groo vs. Conan mash-up with the great Sergio Aragonès.
We are thrilled to have this piece donated from Yeates’ private collection. Be sure to check out our other auctions of Prince Valiant merchandise!
