Michael Jantze

In 2015, the National Cartoonists Society created a Star Wars themed poster that was sold at their booth at the San Diego Comic Con. Many cartoonists from the NCS created their own take of George Lucas’ famous characters, often including their own characters that they are known for. We are happy to be offering several of the original drawings by our members from that print in our eBay auctions.

This colorful original piece was created by Michael Jantze, known for his comic strip The Norm. Drawn on a 5.25x8.5” piece of paper, Jantze’s mixed media of choice for his charming Chewbacca art is ink, colored pencil, and marker. It is dated in the lower left corner “7.12.13”, and is signed “Jantze” in the lower right corner.

But wait, there’s more! There is an unfinished doodle on the back of Jantze’s piece. Two for the price of one!

In addition to his work on the strip The Norm, Jantze’s career has included some time as an art director at George Lucas’ visual effects company Industrial Light & Magic where Jantze probably became too familiar with the wookie in his drawing. He also spent a few years teaching sequential art at the prestigious Savannah College of Art and Design. He currently works as a freelance cartoonist and animator.
