Jack Davis

Ladies and gentlemen, may we present to you an item by one of our most esteemed members, known for his work with EC Comics, MAD Magazine, TIME Magazine, TV Guide, movie posters, books, board games, animation, trading cards, and seemingly for just about anything else that one could possibly draw, the great JACK DAVIS.

In impeccable shape, this is an ink and watercolored piece on a 10x15” heavy piece of Bristol board. Affixed to the lower front right corner is a sticker from Davis’ agents Gerald & Cullen Rapp, Inc., and a black stamp saying “From the collection of Jack Davis.” (This was actually donated to our auctions by cartoonist Bradley Rader known for his work on DC Comics’ Catwoman.) There is no indication what this art was created for, and the piece is unsigned.

We miss our pal Jack who passed away earlier this year. Jack Davis was the cartoonist that all the cartoonists wanted to be like. He elevated the cartoon form to art, and did so as the Southern gentleman from Georgia that he was with grace and charm. He won both the National Cartoonists Society’s coveted Reuben Award and the Milton Caniff Award for lifetime achievement.

(Art pictured with cover sheet taped to the top by Jack himself, and just for sake of privacy on the internet for Jack's widow, we blurred out Jack's address. Original has not been tampered with.)
